How Do You Make Flowers Last Longer
You’ve just been offered a beautiful wreath, and you want it to last? Here are a few tips and simple gestures to keep beautiful flowers for a long time.
Picking flowers in the garden: The flowers must be cut at the right time if you want to keep them as long as possible. Pick in the evening or the morning when it is fresh. Avoid picking in hot, sunny weather. It can provide you with fresh flowers that are perfectly hydrated for your bouquet. It is also advisable to choose your flowers according to their flowering stage. Don’t pick flowers with closed buds (except peonies), as they can be deprived of nutrients and can be unable to open. Flowers picked too late can wilt too quickly.
The first action you should take is to maintain the stems by removing the lower leaves that may be soaking in the water in the vase, which is a source of bacteria. Remember to cut the stems at an angle of one to two centimeters, which allows your flowers to absorb water better. For this cut, use pruning shears, as scissors tend to crush the stems. Make this cut under a trickle of water to avoid the formation of air bubbles.
